🧅 Ingredients
Here is a quick overview with info on what you will need, to help you get going.
The full recipe with US and metric measurements is located further below in the recipe card.
- Olive Oil – Try to use only extra virgin olive oil for the best result.
- White Beans – I used canned Cannellini beans because it's convenient, and they tend to be softer. You can use dried beans too, but then you have to soak and boil them before you can use the beans to make this dip.
- Salt and Black Pepper
- Onion Powder and Garlic Powder – for flavor
- Water
- A Hot Sauce of your choice – I like Frank's Redhot or the Louisiana hot sauce.
- Lime Juice
- Cilantro – fresh, to garnish
- Cayenne Pepper – ground, to garnish (optional)

🍴 Serving Ideas
Use your dip at a small gathering, party or tailgating event.
I love the buffalo flavored bean dip with a glass of wine while I'm watching a movie or while playing PS5.
Here are some dipper ideas:
- Crunchy bread, Crostini, bruschetta or garlic butter bread.
- Raw veggies such as small cute colorful pepper, carrots, or celery stalk pieces.
- Italian dipping sticks such as Grissini (as seen in images).
- Crackers and other savory cookies.
- Pita chips or nachos.
🍱 Storing
Store buffalo white bean dip leftovers in an airtight container in your fridge. The dip will last for about 4-5 days if stored correctly.
I like to use square glass containers which can be closed with a simple plastic or bamboo lid (like the ones in IKEA).
Those can be placed into your oven or microwave oven (without the lid of course) and that way you can easily reheat your dip without having to change containers.
The same goes for when you want to freeze your dip. Just place your glass container in your freezer.
Whenever you want to use it, thaw the white bean dip in your fridge overnight or use the thawing option on your oven.
💭 FAQs
You can make this white bean dip with cannellini, navy, great northern or lima beans. I used cannellini beans in the recipe video and images.
You can flavor your buffalo white bean dip further by adding dried herbs. Add ½ a teaspoon of dried Thyme or Oregano to make this dip more flavorful. You can also add some lemon or lime juice to your dip, just before serving time.
Yes, this dip is Vegan and therefore also Vegetarian. The bean dip is also Gluten-free.
Reduce or skip adding salt or use low sodium salt. You can also choose to use a hot sauce with a lower sodium content.
Add the beans, seasoning, and water into a non-stick pan. Combine and heat up. Reduce over a lower heat setting and stir frequently so that the beans don't stick to the bottom of your pan. Cook until your dip has thickened to the desired consistency and serve up.
Reduce the dip over a lower flame to the desired consistency. Mash and break the beans with a wooden spatula. That way, the dip will thicken and turn out velvety smooth.
If you want a chunky bean dip, then don't reduce and cook the dip for all too long. The beans will be left more or less whole, which in turn will result in a chunkier dip.
Yes, you can use the dip as bread spread too.
This dip is lightly spiced, but it also depends on the hot sauce used. You can make this dip spicy hot by using a very hot sauce or by adding more hot sauce to the cooking process.

Notes
- Pick which white beans you want to use. You can choose between cannellini beans, lima beans, great northern or navy beans.
- The beans can be canned beans or dried beans. Canned beans are convenient and easier to deal with, they don't need to be cooked. Dried beans are healthier because they are not canned in a substance. But dried beans need to be soaked overnight and cooked soft, which takes time.
- 1 can beans = 400 grams full or 240 grams strained, just the beans.
Equipment
- 2 Small Ramekins or Servings Bowls
