You can get creative and come up with your own Fried Rice Recipes. You can mix and match by adding your favorite ingredients.
This comes handy too if you are tight on budget, left with a few ingredients in your fridge which need to get used up.
We love sustainable, zero waste meals and this can be beautifully done with fried rice!
Just empty your fridge and dump it all in your fried rice pan or pick whichever suits your taste!
Most rice are suitable and can be used to make fried rice. Some of our favorites include long grain white rice varieties such as basmati rice and Jasmine rice, Japanese fat rice as well as various Asian brown rice grains. Use a batch of day-old rice for the best result!
As oil, you can use canola oil, sunflower oil, sesame oil, peanut oil.
Here are some ingredients, including vegetables, that you can add to your wok or skillet:
- carrot or other root veggies such as parsnips,
- peas, snow peas or sugar snap peas
- egg scramble or egg whites or egg yolks
- green onion or scallion or regular onion chopped fine
- ginger and garlic chopped fine
- broccoli or cauliflower
- rotisserie or other cooked leftover meats such as chicken, turkey, beef, ham, pork.
- corn or mini corn
- asparagus
- cabbage
- green beans
- hot chili pepper

Fried Rice Seasoning Recipe
Ingredients
Basic Rice Seasoning
- ½ Tablespoon Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Vinegar i.e Rice vinegar or not all too strong Vinegar
- 2½ Tablespoon Soy Sauce all purpose
- 1 Tablespoon Sriracha Sauce or Ketchup *See Notes
Add any of these (optional)
- Few Drops Fish Sauce optional
- 1 Tablespoon Oyster Sauce optional
- 1 Teaspoon Doubanjiang optional
- 1 Teaspoon Shrimp Paste optional
Instructions
- Combine ingredients in a mixing bowl.
- Pour over rice in wok and stir fry.
Notes
- Use sriracha to make it spicy and ketchup if you don't want it spicy.
- You can add any of the extra optional ingredients but you don't have to.
