    TL;DR

Brown sugar-glazed carrots are sheet pan caramelized candied carrots that are roasted in the oven. The sugar is sprinkled over the carrots with butter.

During the roasting process, the carrots get cooked soft, and the sugar and butter get caramelized. Hence the name candied carrots.

The glazed carrots are a popular holiday side dish crowd-pleaser. That's why candied carrots are also known in some circles as Thanksgiving carrots, Christmas carrots, or Easter carrots.

A similar dish is the roasted carrots and potatoes recipe.

    Variations

You can prepare different glazed candied carrot variations. To adjust to a particular diet, switch the sugar and butter out. However, you can also add some flavors to pep things up.

To make Paleo or Keto low-carb glazed carrots, switch out the brown sugar with palm sugar, honey, natural maple syrup, or date syrup, and instead of the butter, you can use coconut or olive oil.

You can add some of the following flavors and ingredients to your glazed candied carrots:

    • Bourbon - classic warm flavors
    • Ginger - for an Asian touch
    • Thyme - Mediterranean vibes
    • Gourmet Salts such as Himalayan Pink Salt or Fleur de Sel De Guerande
    • Pecans - adds crunch too
    • Bacon - your guests won't be able to stop themselves!
    • Dill - To serve with fish or seafood
    • Orange Juice - Interesting with freshly pressed orange juice
    • Lemon Juice - The way I like it
