A flavore-packed, easy to prepare skillet asparagus side dish, seasoned with garlic and parmesan.
This recipe is beginner-friendly and ready within minutes.

TL;DR
A simple side dish to use fresh green spring asparagus. The asparagus are trimmed and briefly cooked in a pan to infuse with garlic.
Grated parmesan is used to add a cheesy touch to this dish, and the Italian cheese also adds incredible unique flavors.
Ingredient Notes
- Asparagus — Green asparagus is most suitable, but you can use white asparagus as well.
- Garlic — Fresh garlic chopped.
- Olive Oil
- Salt & Black Pepper
- Parmesan — Parmesan is sold all over the world, but what I highly recommend is Italian Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese instead, which is basically the only real parmesan cheese. There is a vast difference in flavor between Parmigiano-Reggiano and parmesan, yet Italian Parmigiano-Reggiano isn't always readily available. In that case, you can simply use parmesan.
Process Overview
Step 1
Rinse and pat dry asparagus. Trim off the tough fibrous ends.
Keep chopped garlic ready.
Step 2
Heat the olive oil and sauté asparagus, first on one side, then on the other side with the garlic.
Step 3
Season with salt and black pepper.
Spread the grated parmesan over the asparagus and serve hot.
Serving
This stove top asparagus recipe is served as a side dish. We love it with a chicken or beef meal.
Plenty of sauce, meats, and mushroom type meals go hand in hand with parmesan asparagus. Add some mashed potato to that and you have a complete meal.
Here are some of my favorites main course meals with this side dish:
Storing
Parmesan Asparagus leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 3 days.
But I don't really recommend it because the vegetable will get limp and lose its freshness when reheated.
Pan-sautéed asparagus taste best when cooked and eaten straight out of the pan.
