📕 What is a Wheatgrass Shot?
A wheatgrass shot is a super healthy juice made by processing wheatgrass that grows from seeds into a concentrated punch.
Wheatgrass, sometimes spelled wheat grass, is the young green grass that grows out of your wheat.
Its green color pigment is stunning, and you might have spotted this juice at your local juice bar.
Yep, the same wheat that we use to make flour or which we turn into wheat berries.
Apart from being fully organic, this drink is also quite economical, can easily be made at home, and does not require a juicer.
This health shot is a dietary supplement, and it is advisable to consume it in small quantities on an empty stomach.
The taste of this green colored super drink can be a little hard-hitting the first few times! Nausea is a little side effect and usually normal.
However, some people might get some allergic reactions. If that happens, stop consuming it and consult your doctor!
🌿 Health Benefits
Wheatgrass is a superfood – it is stuffed with antioxidants, it is antibacterial, and has anti-inflammatory properties (can help with inflammation).
This grass is stuffed with amino acids and many cannot be produced by our body.
Vitamin A, C, E, K and some B vitamins can be found in wheatgrass juice, as well as other nutrient such as iron, magnesium, and calcium minerals.
Its enzymes not only help the body in getting rid of impurities and stored toxins, but it also helps with digestion.
Other benefits include boosting your metabolism and immune system, and lowering your blood pressure and cholesterol.
People suffering from diabetes can consume a shot of wheatgrass juice to regulate their blood sugar levels.
Expect an increase in energy, less gas, less bloating, and an increase in overall health after consuming small quantities of this drink at regular intervals.
It may also help with constipation.
Similar green drinks like that can be made with spirulina and moringa leaves.
🔪 How to make it with fresh wheatgrass?
Here is how it's done. You can print it too in the recipe card further below.
Step 1
Keep some wheatgrass seeds in a bowl of water. Rinse them periodically until the seeds have tiny white sprouts.
Step 2
Place the seeds on soil ground or in a pot with soil and water whenever the soil is getting too dry.
Step 3
After a few days, when the wheatgrass has grown a few inches, cut the plant with a clean sharp scissor.
Step 4
Take the fresh wheatgrass and place into a blender jar with apple juice.
Blend to extract the flavors and properties. Strain the juice with a fine mesh sieve.
Enjoy it as a shot only! Do not consume big quantities!
💡 Tips
- Try to use organic wheatgrass seeds for this recipe.
- Do-it-yourself wheatgrass growing kits can also be purchased to grow wheatgrass indoors.
- Wheatgrass is easy to maintain, economical, hygienic, grows without trouble, and is generally a strong plant.
- Use only fresh young soft plants. If the plant is getting hard, remove it and use freshly sprouted seeds again.
- You can use a shot of wheatgrass and add it to your smoothie or juice. For example a vegetables smoothie with spinach or a grape cabbage and mandarin juice.
🍴 How to consume it?
Wheatgrass juice should be consumed early in the morning on an empty stomach.
Consume not more than 1 shot per day!
The Chlorophyll in the grass tastes like fresh-cut grass which some people may not like (and may even find nauseating). The flavor is that of grass.
The taste is acquired and once you get used to it, there’s no turning back.
If the taste is a major deterrent from consuming this extremely healthy drink, you can try to add a stronger flavored juice instead of apple juice, such as grape juice or orange juice.
Do not consume this juice if you are on medication or if pregnant. Consult your doctor in this case.
🍱 Storing
This drink cannot be stored and should be consumed as soon as possible.
Also, cut wheatgrass will get fibrous over time and will no longer remain nice and fresh. The fibers can be removed to grow a fresh patch of wheatgrass sprouts.
💭 FAQs
Mix the powder with some water and consumer. Although this option is not fresh, it is a much better option for people who cannot consume fresh wheatgrass.
Dry freshly cut wheatgrass in a dehydrator. Once done, turn the dry wheatgrass into a powder using a mortar and pestle or spice blender/ coffee grinder.
The best time to drink wheatgrass juice is in the morning on an empty stomach.

You know, I used to not really care for the taste of wheat grass. But the taste kinda grows (no pun intended) on you. At least for me it did. Some of the other comments sound delicious. In fact, once I'm done here, I'm off to the market to replenish my supply.
Great stuff. I'll be back.

"Fresh cut grass" - haha, I had to chuckle at this 😀 I've heard of wheat grass before, though never tried it. I'm very curious as to what it must be like - the colour is intense - perhaps I might find it rather strange though if it tastes like grass, lol 😀

If you mix it with apple juice as I did here then it tastes rather lovely!

Beautiful green color. I forgot what was the Japanese word for this drink... They sell powder form too. I used to drink one package a day. I just mixed with water, but never mixing with apple juice. That sounds good. I wasn't bothered by the taste, knowing that this is going to make me feel good. =P

Nice and strong isn't it! I don't really like the taste and I'm sure the apple juice would make it better.
Helene Dsouza says
yeah I agree the taste of wheatgrass alone is not that attractive but thats why apple juice smooths the flavoures of the health juice.

I have heard of wheat grass....it's very popular in California where my sons live. I had no idea it was SO good for you!

I've heard wheatgrass is very good for you. Shops here that serve smoothies usually have a container or two of wheat grass growing on the counter and when someone orders a health drink they cut some off and throw it in the blender. It definitely makes a very vibrant green drink, doesn't it! xx
Helene Dsouza says
thats so cool right! u see it growing in a juice bar and they cut it in front of your eyes. I love this green, it gives lots of freshness to the eyes.

What a wonderful post, I haven't seen wheatgrass seeds yet, now I want to plant them, they are so cute. Where did you find them? I have bought wheatgrass for juicing but growing my own would be fantastic. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. I love the look of your juice.
