TL;DR
We have plenty of passion fruits growing in our tropical garden, and therefore I always extract and collect the pulpy juice.
If you find yourself in the same position or if you simply love tangy sodas as much as I do, then this passion fruit soda is all yours.
Passion fruits are naturally sour, and I would say almost as sour as a lemon.
If you don't like it sour but enjoy Passion Fruit flavors, you can add sugar syrup to your flavored fruity soda OR you can simply use store-bought passion fruit juice as these are artificially sweetened.
Ingredients
- Passion Fruit Juice (aka Maracuja) — I use fresh passion fruits. I cut them into two, strain and collect the juice. This juice is not sweetened and will result in a tangy passion fruit soda. If you want it sweet, use store-bought passion fruit juice OR add some sugar syrup to the concentrated fresh passion fruit juice.
- Sugar Syrup (optional, I don't use it because I like it sour) — Cane sugar adds good sweet flavors.
- Ice Cubes (optional)
- Club Soda (aka Carbonated Water/Seltzer) — You can use mineral carbonated water too (these are common in Europe).
How to make it?
The fruit soda drink is simple to prepare, and you will take a few minutes at most.
Step 1
If you use fresh passion fruits, cut them into two, scoop out the pulp and strain, so that you are left with pure passion fruit juice.
Pour the passion fruit juice into a glass.
Step 2
Add ice cubes to the glass and top up with club soda.
Step 3
Mix it all well with a straw and serve up immediately.

Serving
I love this drink during the hotter months of the year as it's cooling and super refreshing.
You can serve it to your guests at a house party as a non-alcoholic alternative.
Just keep in mind, that natural passion fruit juice harvested from the fruit is sour, and kids are super sensible to sour flavors.
For kids, I recommend adding a bit of sweet sugar syrup to balance the flavors or use only package passion fruit juice (which is sweetened). But there are kids out there that enjoy sour, tangy fruit sodas, so adjust as needed.
