New Year’s Eve Appetizers – Amuse Bouche & Bite Sized Hors d’Oeuvres Recipes

As you might have noticed before, I am not that good in preparing and creating appetizers. I prefer to enjoy them and marvel at the cute little bites. Back in Europe, my mum would always prepare delicious new New Year’s Eve Appetizers. She would usually make canapé with caviar or salmon and my dad would take out the apéritif and the champagne or Prosecco. The little marzipan pigs,chocolate coins, horseshoes, lucky clover and red mushrooms would have to wait until after midnight, and then we would exchange wishes, enjoy the goodies and take in the rest of the night.

Since I can remember, my grandparents would honor us with their presence and we would celebrate the Silvester night together. Always! We would wander out into the icy snow covered garden with our cold drinks (!) at midnight and look at the few fire works in the sky. You would either hear a “Guads naichs Johr!” or a “Bonne année et Bonne santé!”, but never a “Happy New Year” as you might be used to hear. We would play a round of Scrabbel and enjoy another load of quick and delicious bite sized appetizers until we would finally go to bed exhausted but happy.

In Goa I have learned to work during New Year’s eve and I am quite ok with this, as long as it’s not physically draining. On this day, New Year’s Eve, I sold out Tandoori chicken, listened to people’s excuses why they did not want to pay entry at party gates and wrote stories while crazy amount of visitors turned the goan coastline villages into an Ibiza, Macau and Las Vegas combined.While writing this I can hear a standstill traffic on the road, bikes and cars making noise, several ambulances roaming about and a couple of EDM festival stages creating buzzing sound waves. It’s indeed a crazy lively atmosphere and it will remain like this until the 1st of 2014.

Sometimes during those busy days I miss my quiet Silvester evenings with the right company and the little new New Year’s Eve Appetizers. Yet, I doubt I’ ll get the time to make amuse bouche (and can’t go shopping, the roads are blocked!), so I thought it would be nice to get in the mood by sharing a collection of little amuse bouche and the like. I picked the best and most exciting appetizers prepared by my food blogger friends. Maybe if I motivate others I will finally prepare some New Year’s Eve Appetizers (and if I find a time when the roads are cleared!), even if it’s just for the both of us. After all it’s nice to start the new year in celebration, or otherwise it would just be another day in our life. Pretty little bites are a good start to take in the New Year. Don’t you think?
